The surreal town of Rotorua - most of the place stinks of sulphur and all over the place there's random plumes of geothermal steam coming out of the ground. The town itself is a bit of a time warp too - it's like stepping into the 60's. Despite the fact that this sounds a bit negative, i really liked it - the lake is fantastic - met a friendly Maori family who gave us a guided tour around the sacred island in the middle of lake Rotorua, and the floatplanes buzzing around doing tours to the volcanoes are pretty cool too. Will have to go back at some point soon too to visit the infamous street luge and the polynesian spa.
